Job Description:

The Mental Health Technician performs specific non-licensed or non-professional duties of patient care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.  Provides direct patient care while effectively and therapeutically interacting with patients, significant others and other health care team members while delivering care to an assigned group of patients under supervision.  The Mental Health Technician adheres to regulatory and patient care standards related to the delivery of patient care.

Job Responsibilities Include but are not Limited to: 
  • Practices therapeutic interventions in assisting patients to regain and improve their coping abilities.
  • Actively participates in therapy program by co-facilitating therapy, activity and support groups.
  • Monitors and records vital signs (TPR, height, weight, I&O and BP) accurately and within time frames.
  • Assists the Registered nurse when indicated, with discharge planning for the patient and documents in the medical record appropriately.
  • Assists in diagnostic procedures by being aware of scheduled tests and necessary preparation.
  • Performs safety precaution rounds accurately, and in timely fashion all the time.


Required Job Qualifications Include: 

  • 2 years Associate degree preferred
  • Certified Behavioral Health Tech (CBHT) preferred or comparable hospital behavioral health experience 
  • Current BLS Certification required
  • 1-3 years relevant experience
