SHIFT: Days (rotating weekends)

SCHEDULE: Full-time

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Program Supervisor.  Provides clinical services to patients with communication, cognitive and/or swallowing impairments according to professional standards. Coordinates with team, patient, family to develop a goal-directed program. Must maintain records of services provided. Responsible for following department procedures, maintaining professional standards and seeking professional growth.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Must be able to demonstrate understanding of HCA’s and St. David’s “Patients First” safety initiative by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures
  • Recognizes that variables such as age, race, nationality, culture, disease-causing vulnerabilities, socioeconomic factors affect the patient populations under their care
  • Uses interventions appropriate to these factors (e.g., interpreter, dietary preferences, social service consult, etc.)
  • May use computer word-processing program and therapy hardware and software
  • Works closely with other professionals, patients, and families in goal-directed interdisciplinary team approach
  • Verbal and written communication with in-house staff, physicians, patients and family members
  • Handles confidential information regarding patient records
  • Able to read and comprehend medical and technical material
  • Seeks approval for decisions outside standard policies
  • Must be able to prioritize duties and responsibilities
  • Must be able to deal effectively with high stress or high demand situations, showing flexibility and good judgement in problem solving
  • Recognizes that variable such as age, race, nationality, culture, disease-causing vulnerabilities, socioeconomic factors affect the patient population under their care.  Uses interventions appropriate to these factors (e.g. interpreter, dietary preferences, social service consult, etc).  Maintains regular, predictable attendance

 

Qualifications

Education

Master's level education in speech-language pathology

 

Licenses/Certifications
Required:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of employment
  • Current certification in ASHA
  • Current Texas License

Experience

  • At least one year rehabilitation and/or acute care hospital clinical experience preferred
  • MBSS experience highly preferred

Float Pool consists of possible rotations within Acute Care, Inpatient Rehab, and Outpatient Clinic.
