The Surgical Technician is responsible to the Director of Surgical Services. Under the direct supervision of the charge nurse and/or the circulating nurse in the room. At this level, the surgical technologist functions independently in all Level I, Level II and Level III procedures. Also serves as a preceptor for new staff. Responsible to take first and second call as required by the department. Is responsible for appropriate instrumentation adjustment relevant to the ages and sizes of the patients served, i.e. Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric.
High school graduate or equivalent preferred. Completion of surgical technologist course or comparable experience.
Clinicals in surgical tech course.
Current BLS certification required. Prefer Certified Surgical Technologist.
