Job Summary and Qualifications

What you will do in this role:

    • Use therapeutic communication in daily practice
    • Maintain a safe and therapeutic PACU environment 
    • Implement and direct care, using the nursing process with emphasis on the needs of individual PACU patients 
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of the nursing process 
    • Provide emotional support of the patient and significant others to make informed choices regarding health care 
    • Delegate tasks to the appropriate caregiver 
    • Participate in surgical services specific initiatives and process improvement 
    • Promote a supportive PACU environment · Provide supervision of new employees, patient care techs, student nurses and/or nurse externs 
    • Maintain high quality (age specific) care for adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, as assigned 
    • Support the mission, vision and values of the organization 
    • Provides immediate post-surgical care of patients who have had general anesthesia epidural/spinal anesthesia and IV sedation
    • Monitors all patients for airway and pain management 

    What qualifications you will need:

    • Current RN license in State of Texas or compact license
    • BSN required within 24 months of hire into RN position
    • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS provider
    • American Heart Association or American Red Cross ACLS provider within 12 months
    • Two years of acute care nursing experience preferred, ED or ICU experience required
    • Minimum of two years critical care experience preferred
    • Please note this position has on call requirements

     ** Please note Seasonal requirements**

    •  All seasonal RNs are required to work a minimum of 72 hours per pay period during the seasonal period.
    • Within a close geography, you may be asked to float to another facility that has an emergent staffing need.
    • Four (4) weekend shifts are required each 4 week schedule period.
    • During the course of the 32-week period, the employee is required to work two (2) holiday shifts (defined by Department Manager or designee).
    • Seasonal Staff are PRN status employees and are subject to first call-off. There are no guaranteed hours by the hospital.
