Job Summary and Qualifications

*  This is a PRN position * 

The Registered Nurse Day Surgery will help support the 12 bed unit by performing direct patient care within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act, with emphasis on the outpatient Day surgery service line. The RN will assist with pre-admit testing of the patients.  This will include arranging any pre-admit testing needed prior to a procedure, coordinating the patients chart with test results and health assessments, obtaining history/assessment of the patient, educating the patient and/or family ahead of time on what can be expected, outlining the instructions to the patient that must be followed prior to the scheduled procedure.  

What You Will Do In This Role:

  • Use therapeutic communication in daily practice
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic Day Surgery environment
  • Implement and direct care, using the nursing process with emphasis on the needs of individual Day Surgery patients
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the nursing process
  • Provide emotional support of the patient and significant others to make informed choices regarding healthcare
  • Participate in Day Surgery specific initiatives and process improvement
  • Promote a supportive Day Surgery environment

What Qualifications You Will Need:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing, ASN required/BSN preferred
  • Current State of TX RN license required or compact license accepted
  • BLS issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • ACLS issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Minimum of 1 year acute care experience within the last 5 years required
  • Experience with infant to adult Day Surgery patients, preferred
