Job Summary and Qualifications

The Coding Integrity Specialist-III(CIS-III) reviews and evaluates hospitalinpatient medical record documentation to assign, sequence, edit, andvalidatetheappropriate ICD-10-CMandICD-10-PCScodes, DRGs, and abstracted data. The CIS-IIIperforms coding and code/DRGvalidation across multiple entities by applying allappropriate codingguidelines and criteria. 

What you will do:

  • You will code abstracted data such as physician, discharge disposition, and query tracking for inpatient records 
  • You will primarily code for the following inpatient records: 
  • Diagnosis description with appropriate 3-7 digit code assignment with corresponding Present On Admission (POA) 
  • Procedure description with appropriate 7 digit ICD-10-PCS code, date and surgeon 
  • Admitting Diagnosis 
  • Discharge Diagnosis 
  • Where applicable, complete the coding portion of the IRF-PAI 
  • You will maintain or exceed established productivity and accuracy standards 
  • You will utilize the complete patient medical record documentation in code/DRG assignment, validation, and editing of codes and DRGs 
  • You will initiate, review, and edit physician queries in compliance with Company and departmental policy 

What Qualifications you will need: 

  • High School graduate or GED equivalent required 
  • Associate or Bachelor degree in HIM/HIT preferred 
  • Knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, MS-DRGs, APR DRGs, and POA Assignment required 
  • Minimum of 1 year of acute care hospital inpatient coding experience required 
  • Minimum of 3 years of acute care hospital inpatient coding experience preferred 
  • RHIT, RHIA, or CCS preferred
