Seeking a Decedent Affairs Coordinator who will be under the general supervision of the Histology Lab Manager, provides support to departments, inpatient floors, Emergency Department, morgue staff, coroners, funeral directors, and family members of deceased patients through telephone and email contact, meetings, problem solving and follow-up.
What you will do in this role:
1. Manages all phone calls pertaining to decedent affairs
2. Arranges for pick up from the morgue by designated funeral home
3. Functions as the hospital liaison for funeral directors and medical examiner’s office
4. Maintenance of morgue death log and is responsible for the cleanliness and operational readiness of the morgue
5. Provides quality assurance for all death’s in our hospital by providing follow up calls to the designated funeral home and ensures they have proper documentation
6. Applies and completes pauper’s burial request for any abandon bodies
7. Works in conjunction with histology and case management for fetal demise cases
8. Resolves questions and discrepancies/escalations regarding expired patients and fetal demise cases
9. When applicable attends CNC meetings to reiterate the hospital’s mortuary processes
10. Inputs Vigilanz occurrence reports for any and all discrepancies with decedent documentation
11. Provides support to nursing units as autopsy’s are needed
What qualifications you will need:
Minimum Education, Experience, Training, Required Knowledge, Skill, Abilities and Other Job-Related Characteristics:
Education: Associate of Applied Science in Mortuary Science OR Bachelor’s of Science in Biology, Health Science, or other related field
Experience: 1 year of mortuary science or 1 year of process improvement management preferred
Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility and department/unit
