Job Summary and Qualifications

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Case Management (CM) will work in conjunction with others to develop and lead the company strategy and execution for Case Management. This strategy will encompass all aspects of CM including both clinical and financial operations focused on improving the delivery of patient care and the cost to deliver care. The strategy will include providing excellent service to facilities, divisions, and corporate business partners. The CFO will collaborate with numerous executive stakeholders including Operations, Ethics & Compliance, Audit, Legal, and Regs. The CFO will work directly with Group & Division CFOs to support all aspects of CM. The CFO will lead dedicated teams that will provide specialized support in key focus areas including Finance, Technology, and Analytics. In addition, the CFO will establish a company level denials team representing both the financial and clinical aspect of denials focusing on improving facility level processes that result in payment denial. The CFO will partner with key stakeholders and other disciplines to ensure consistency in processes, reporting, and communication to the facilities and divisions. The CFO will prepare budgets and business plans, monthly reporting and results, and manage CM related costs The CFO will own the contracting process for CM as well as partner with HPG on applicable contract negotiations.

The CFO must possess strategic vision, confirmed financial skills, excellent communication skills, proven motivational capabilities, an executive presence, and a demonstrated track record of delivering results and achieving goals. Must be able to navigate and be successful in a matrix management environment. The position requires solid leadership, trust building, and change management skills to influence and lead others in order to the ensure success of all initiatives. The candidate must be results-oriented with a demonstrated strong commitment and willingness to do what it takes to get the job done.

Operational Duties (included but not limited to):

  • Champion innovation, leading practices and continuous improvement within Performance Improvement and Case Management operations.
  • Serve as an Executive Leader representing CM across the company.
  • Provide strong and stable leadership by creating an environment that is positive, motivating and promotes accountability and results.
  • Communicate and coordinate with Group, Division and Hospital executives to assure alignment of strategies, goals and programs for CM.
    • Interpret and report trends in performance measurement data and recommend operational changes to maximize organization effectiveness and efficiency.
    • Responsible for building and maintaining high quality Finance, Technology, Analytics and Denials departments and support for the organization.
    • Provides Group executives with financial, clinical, and/or process results & reports on a routine basis.
    • In conjunction with CM leadership team, develop operating standards that define processes, procedures, and responsibilities for CM teams including development of measurement and monitoring to ensure standard processes are followed.
    • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures to minimize process variation and maximize results.
    • Directs month end processes including end of month close activity, companywide allocations, and compliance matters.
    • Leads monthly MORs with CM Management Team including Division MORs.
    • Co-leads monthly operating reviews with various business partners such as Rehab Services and Emergency Services.
    • Oversees execution of all contracts for CM areas including items such Physician Advisors, InterQual, Midas, contract services, hotels, and others.
    • Prepare monthly financial close and management reports for submission to CM management team and HCA senior executives.
    • Prepares business cases for various projects to support company-wide initiatives this includes innovation of new processes to streamline facility based operations.
    • Ensure the integrity of CM financial statements through reconciliations and variance analysis reporting including executive level financial reporting.
    • Develops departmental budgets, and monitors, interprets and analyzes financial performance in realizing established plans and objectives.
    • Identifies and reports undesirable trends and potential business opportunities and makes recommendations for action, directs the preparation of internal financial reports and assures that the reports reliably reflect the financial position.
    • Assumes a lead role in analyzing and exploring means of reducing hospital operating costs and increasing revenues based on knowledge of financial reports and operating procedures.
    • Establish and maintain effective internal controls to ensure all SOX and audit guidelines are achieved.
    • Oversee the CM interaction with Internal Audit including new audit needs for CM processes at all levels of the organization.
    • Interact with Division and Facility CFOs and Controllers to ensure accuracy of data reported by facilities on monthly Financial Trackers.
    • Mentors, guides and directs staff to achieve results.
    • Practices and adheres to the “Code of Conduct” philosophy and “Mission and Value Statement”.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Education/Experience:

    · Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field required, CPA preferred.

    · 10+ years of management of healthcare financial operations experience required.

    · Hospital based CFO experience preferred.

    · HCA-based operations experience a plus.

    Certificate/License:

    CPA preferred, but not required.
