Position Description: Emergency Communication Dispatcher (Communication Specialist) is an essential role to ensure the safety and efficiency of Mission Health’s Medical Transports. Focused on safety, high-quality patient care and customer satisfaction, this role is responsible for call-taking and dispatching of ground and air ambulances for the Mountain Area Medical Airlift / Ambulance (MAMA) program. The Communication Specialist/Dispatcher must be skilled in multi-tasking to receive, process, and arranges requests for emergent and non-emergency medical transportation. Ensuring the most appropriate unit is assigned in a timely manner; coordinates all aspects of the mission and always monitors the location of all transport units while maintaining safety as a priority. Collects and maintains accurate records of all information received via requesting personnel, aviation staff, transport crews and leadership personnel. This information will include pre- and post-transport patient documentation and transport records. Responsible for appropriately initiating the Post Accident Incident Plan (PAIP) and following the established procedures. Responsibilities are accomplished and based on MAMA & Mission Health System mission, vision, and values.
Introduction / Program Background: Mission Health, based in Asheville, North Carolina has been providing critical care air and ground medical transport through Mountain Area Medical Airlift (MAMA) since 1986. With two helicopters available 24 hours a day from bases in Asheville and Franklin, MAMA provides air medical services to 18 western North Carolina counties, eastern Tennessee, northeast Georgia and northern South Carolina. From premature infants in respiratory distress to serious traumatic injuries, MAMA's nurses, paramedics and respiratory therapists are trained to provide quality care in transport under medical direction from Mission Hospital. MAMA (Ambulance), formerly Regional Transport Services (RTS), at Mission Health completes roughly 25,000 inter-facility ALS ground transports, NICU transports and discharges per year while managing over 360 dedicated Critical Care Transports annually. Our team adopts progressive care models, future growth and strategic planning to continue being a leader in our industry.
