Job Summary and Qualifications

Responsible for coordination and implementation of the Laboratory Service Line quality program in the assigned division(s) which includes operationalizing laboratory quality initiatives, monitoring quality processes, and ensuring ongoing quality evaluation and improvement. Supports compliance with clinical lab regulatory standards (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), College of American Pathologists (CAP), The Joint Commission (TJC) Laboratory Accreditation, and other external agencies overseeing clinical laboratories.

Works with department leaders to implement performance monitoring and improvement, collects and reports on performance data, develops and supports implementation of corrective action plans, leads process improvement initiatives, and assists in the training and education of personnel regarding quality activities.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Implements performance monitoring and improvement that support quality and safety initiatives.

  • Assists in identification and communication of “best practices” in the division to support enterprise standardization and sharing.

  • Leading proactive laboratory process improvement initiatives, provide feedback on standardization opportunities, evaluate success through pre-established criteria, and increased involvement of staff and pathology medical directors toward a culture of quality.

  • Leading proactive laboratory safety activities to create hospital laboratories that are highly reliable as reflected in reduced errors, elimination of unsafe processes, and increased involvement of staff and pathology medical directors toward a culture of safety.

  • Contributing to the achievement of laboratory business and financial goals through optimal division performance in quality and patient safety.

  • Collaborating with and supporting hospital quality, risk, safety and infection prevention leaders to achieve top ranking in national and state publicly reported data initiatives.

  • Working with Corporate and Division medical leaders to support data analysis, reporting, process and outcomes improvement. Contributing to ongoing enhancement of enterprise quality reporting methods and dashboards.

  • Continuously monitoring and evaluating laboratory quality and risk performance data across the division, while noting trends, and identifying and prioritizing opportunities to improve.

  • Assisting divisions in building a proactive quality department by implementing processes to support accreditation and regulatory inspections.

  • Facilitating and/or lead process improvement teams as needed to achieve quality improvement goals.

  • Evaluating compliance with state and federal regulations and standards, including but not limited to CMS, CLIA, CAP, and TJC.

  • Demonstrate personal responsibility for professional development.

  • Promoting a culture that is positive, values individual strengths, takes risks, and is committed to optimal patient care, and compliance with standards.

  • Attending HCA-mandated training and meeting all ethics and compliance standards and requirements.

  • Developing and implementing projects as directed by Quality Director, AVP, Quality and CLO.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree in a clinical laboratory, chemical, biological science or related field is required


  • 2+ years of experience in quality improvement


  • 1+ year of experience in clinical laboratory


  • Previous experience within a multi facility environment
