Job Summary and Qualifications

The Unit Secretary will perform secretarial, receptionist, and clerical duties in assigned area and assist the professional nursing staff in the smooth functioning of the unit.

MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform secretarial, receptionist, and clerical duties in assigned area
  • Assist the professional nursing staff in the smooth functioning of the unit
  • Transcribe and process physician orders under the supervision of an RN ensuring the correct identity of the patient.
  • Answer the intercom and telephone and relay information to the appropriate team members promptly and accurately
  • Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide services based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the following age groups: adolescent, adult, geriatric
  • Assemble and maintain adequate patient chart information for each shift
  • Assess the stock level of supplies and order as needed following the PAR level to avoid overstocking
  • Able to identify potential or actual victims of abuse and understands proper reporting mechanism
  • Confers with appropriate nursing staff regarding the scheduling of patient activities and tests and enters appropriate data in the computer system
  • Promptly reports matters requiring immediate nursing intervention
  • Able to modify job duties and communicate with customers in an age appropriate manner
  • Assists the nursing staff in the retrieval of data and forms utilized in the nursing process and patient care
  • Sets goals to achieve personal satisfaction related to job performance
  • Attends educational programs/in-services related to job performance and self-development
  • Every AM checks all computers on unit to ensure they are properly working and are clean/dust free
  • Float to other departments as needed to cover sitting with PEC/CEC/Safety patients

What qualifications you will need:
  • CPR for Healthcare Providers must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • High School Graduate / GED
