Job Summary and Qualifications

Have you always dreamed of working in the ICU? Are you a current RN with at least 1 year of acute care experience? The ICU Plus program is for you! Southern Hills hospital has a unique opportunity with the StaRN Plus. 

The next cohort will be starting on January 9, 2023.

Important things to keep in mind:

  • For the first 4 weeks, attendance is mandatory for all scheduled training dates to remain in the program. The schedule will be Monday - Friday from 8 am - 5 pm.
  • Shift selections are not guaranteed and will be determined based off business needs. Shifts may not be determined until after cohort starts.
  • Internal candidates must interview and have accepted offers within 3 weeks of the cohort start date for which you are applying for.

Accelerate your nursing career by joining our Specialty Training Apprenticeship for Registered Nurses (StaRN) program! We invite registered nurses to apply for a unique opportunity to have didactic and clinical training by HealthTrust (a part of the HCA family).

  • Didactic trainingintroduces nurses to core curriculum and hospital initiatives in a classroom setting (4 to 6 weeks)
  • Simulation trainingreinforces nursing skills learned in the didactic setting (1 week)
  • Hands on trainingwith a facility preceptor in your nursing unit (6 to 8 weeks)

10‐week training for experienced RNs

  • Four (4) weeks of interactive classroom discussions, case studies, hands-on skills training, and simulations with experienced StaRN clinical instructors 
  • Six (6) weeks of unit‐based clinical preceptorship 

Interactive classroom lectures/discussions 

  • Curriculum based on evidence-based practice, National Standards, and the HCA Healthcare Clinical Standards of Excellence
  • Basic Dysrhythmia 
  • AHA Basic Life Support / Advanced Cardiac Life Support 
  • Meditech (EHR) hands‐on training 
  • Critical Care medication management 
  • TeamSTEPPS® training 
  • CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention 
  • AIDET, SBAR, Patient Experience, Falls and more 

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing, BSN preferred
  • Candidates must have previous acute care experience
  • Independently maintains license
  • Acquires required contact hours to maintain license
  • Must be licensed by the state of Nevada
  • Training will include BLS/ACLS certification
  • Self-motivated and strong communication skills required

For internal candidates only:

Eligible to transfer per policy:

  • 6 months in current position
  • No write ups in the last 6 months

For StaRN's hired into the facility, please note:

  • Candidates with less than 18 months of acute care experience will not be eligible for transfer.
  • Candidates with 18 to 24 months of acute care experience will be considered for this position.
  • Candidates with 24 months, or more, of acute care experience are preferred.

This role requires you to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 based on local, state and /or federal law or regulations (unless a medical or religious exemption is approved).
