Job Summary and Qualifications

This cohort will start on February 6, 2023. 

Accelerate your nursing career by joining our Specialty Training Apprenticeship for Registered Nurses (StaRN) program! We invite new graduate registered nurses to apply for a unique opportunity to have didactic and clinical training by HealthTrust (a part of the HCA family). The StaRN Program is a unique educational opportunity to meet a critical need for specialty nurses. StaRN Behavioral Health is innovatively designed to provide intense postgraduate training to newly licensed Registered Nurses specifically interested in the field of Behavioral Health Nursing.

12 week training for new RN's.

  • Six (6) weeks of interactive classroom discussions, case studies, handson skills training, and simulations with experienced StaRN clinical instructors
  • Six (6) weeks of unitbased clinical preceptorship

  • Curriculum based on evidencebased practice, National Standards and HCA Clinical Standards of Excellence
  • ARC Basic Life Support / ARC Advanced Life Support 
  • Basic Dysrhythmia

Mosby Elsevier Core Curriculum – Online lessons covering a wide range of topics relevant to Medical Surgical Nursing 

HCA Healthcare Behavioral Health Core Curriculum – Online lessons covering a wide range of topics relevant to Behavioral Health Nursing 

Hands‐on MedSurg Skills Training, that includes but not limited to: 

  • IV and Phlebotomy 
  • Indwelling catheter, NG and PEG tube / Central line dressing 
  • Tracheostomy care 
  • Pump management / Blood administration 

Five Days of high‐fidelity simulation 

  • Medical Surgical & Behavioral Healthspecific scenarios
  • Comprehensive facilitated video debriefing

Responsible for planning, executing and evaluating care given to patients. Has patient contact, monitors the activities of all nursing staff, demonstrates clinical skills, and serves as team leader on-call emergency situations.

SCHEDULE: Full-time, SHIFT: Varies based on the needs of each unit with rotating weekends.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, provides clinically competent professional nursing care.

The Registered Nurse is responsible for patient assessment, development, implementation and coordination of the patients’ plan of care including the medical treatment plan and the evaluation of patient treatment. The Registered Nurse will function within the full scope of the RN licensure, according to the California Nursing Practice Act.

The Registered Nurse has primary accountability for monitoring patient outcomes. As the team coordinator of the patient care team (including but not limited to: physicians, registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses, technicians, and support and clerical staff), the Registered Nurse collaborates, directs, delegates, assigns, guides and serves as a resource to the department and the patient care team for patient care delivery.

The Registered Nurse promotes a cooperative working relationship with care team members, physicians, other disciplines and the public by facilitating and enhancing communication, displaying honesty and respect, displaying sensitivity to cultural and age differences, and expressing and accepting feedback in a professional manner. 

What qualifications you will need:
  • Nonviolent Crisis Interv Inst, or Nonviolent Crisis Intervention
  • Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing, BSN preferred; Masters Degree, or Registered Nurse Diploma, or Associate Degree
  • This is for graduates within the previous 12 - 18 months 
  • Candidates may not have previous acute care experience 
  • Independently maintains license 
  • Acquires required contact hours to maintain license 
  • Must be licensed by the state of Nevada prior to scheduling an interview 
  • Training will include BLS/ACLS certification 
  • Self-motivated and strong communication skills required 
  • Acceptance into the program requires a two-year commitment
