Position Summary & Responsibilities:
The Registered Nurse – PACU is responsible for assessing the operative nursing care needs of patients, planning interventions and evaluating outcomes of care. The RN is responsible for:
  • Providing care (appropriate for age specific - pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics), the developmental and safety needs, the planned procedure, and the anesthetic agent used
  • Communicating and educating the patient and/or their family members and/or significant others regarding events pertinent to their care
  • Anticipating and planning for the needs of the surgical team

    Minimum Position Requirements:

    1. Licensure/Certification/Registration:  

    a.    TX RN License or compact license

    b.    BLS (AHA)

    c.    ACLS (AHA) If currently have ACLS it must be maintained; if not, it must be obtained within 6 months and then maintained.

    d.    PALS (AHA) If currently have PALS it must be maintained; if not, it must be obtained within 6 months and then maintained.

     

    1. Education:  

                 a.   ADN required

    b.   BSN preferred. If hired into RN required position after September 2014 and no BSN, then BSN required within 3 years of facility date.
