Performs high quality radiographic procedures on patients of all ages and backgrounds according to departmental protocol. Practices radiation safety techniques at all times. Complies with the Memorial Health Compliance Program, related policies and procedures and the Code of Business Practices; reports instances of perceived and actual non-compliance to Team Leader or through other reporting mechanisms.
Introduction of patient to self, registered technologists and physician if appropriate. Prepares patient for examination by proper gowning and explanation of procedure to patient. Performs positive patient ID properly prior to performing x-ray studies. Acquires appropriate history from patient as relative to the exam. Completes radiographic examination per physician order and department protocol. Practices radiation safety techniques by utilizing the ALARA principal, shields all patients unless prohibited by exam type. Utilization of protective shielding when performing fluoroscopic procedures or restraining patients. Wears radiation exposure badge appropriately and changes monthly. Records exposure data for pregnant patients (confirmed or suspected) according to protocol. Practices proper collimation positioning and exposure factors. Accurately indicates affected side or appropriately designates “R” or “L” to indicate right or left side or other indicators as appropriate to exam. Administers contrast utilizing sterile techniques, practicing universal precautions at all times. Reviews order (written, if applicable) before proceeding with exam. Accepts responsibility for correction of orders. Ensures previous exams are available as appropriate, accepts responsibility for call report process. Operates digital and computed radiography producing quality images. Ensures procedures/patients are appropriately identified and merged/unmerged as PACS (Picture and Archiving Communications Systems) requires. Completes RIS procedures to include ‘end exam’ and appropriately enters other charges as required by procedure performed. Operates all radiographic equipment with high degree of proficiency selecting appropriate technical factors for procedure begin performed including but not limited to kVp, MA, focal spot selection, exposure time etc, Recognizes appropriate range of exposure for all procedures acquired on DR or CR. Critiques image quality and repeats as necessary. Supports the orientation of new team members, instructs new team members in operation of equipment, charging/ resulting procedures, etc. Provides guidance in protocols and polices. Teaches and trains students allowing them opportunities to meet their objectives for clinical rotations. |
