Job Summary and Qualifications

Overnight Clinical Pharmacist - Emergency Medicine

This is a 7-on / 7-off, night shift position, responsible for providing clinical pharmacy services to adults and pediatric patients in the Emergency Department. Memorial Health is the only Level 1 trauma center in southeast Georgia. The children’s ER, in the Dwaine & Cynthia Willett Children's Hospital of Savannah offers advanced, full-service pediatric emergency care. Additional responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to adult and pediatric trauma response, code blue response, code sepsis response, code stroke response with bedside thrombolytic administration, pharmacokinetic dosing, drug information, and patient counseling. The position may also provide clinical support for our adult Med/Surg and Critical Care patient populations for portions of the shift.

What you will do in this role:

  • You will interpret orders and transcribe/verify in the pharmacy computer system efficiently.
  • You will accurately compound and dispense pharmaceuticals.
  • You will monitor drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, allergies and appropriateness of drug and dose.
  • You will consult with Physicians and nursing staff members concerning the availability, dosage form, side effects, and possible incompatibility of new as well as currently used drugs. You will suggest appropriate, cost-effective therapeutic medication alternatives to medical staff.
  • You will sustain the hospital formulary, minimizing nonformulary procurements, utilizing therapeutic interchanges and promoting rational drug therapy selection, limiting unnecessary procurement costs.
  • You will provide accurate and timely medication information to healthcare staff and patients.
  • You will maintain appropriate controlled substance records.
  • You will assist with clinical services such as drug consults, nutrition support, pharmacokinetics, anticoagulant monitoring, pain management, IV to PO, renal dosing and other programs as defined by Pharmacy Leadership.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in hospital pharmacy
  • PGY1 Pharmacy Residency preferred
  • PGY2 Emergency Medicine or Critical Care residency preferred
  • Board of Pharmacy Specialties Certification preferred
  • Experience in I.V. admixture and unit dose drug distribution system required
  • B.S. or PharmD from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy
  • Educational requirements appropriate for meeting age-specific needs of pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients
  • This role requires you to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 based on local, state and /or federal law or regulations (unless a medical or religious exemption is approved).
